NEWS ROUNDUP
D&G OSTORERO FERRARI RTR AND KIT. Last week we told you about the forthcoming Ferrari 156/85 of Stefan Johansson. This week we can confirm it will be available as a completely finished car and also as a pre-painted kit. OSTORERO are renowned for the detail on their cars, and similar to earlier version of the Ferrari this one will have a fully detailed driver, tyre markings, and be presented on a display plinth. Prices are expected to be similar to the Prevoius Lotis releases, but of course the exchange rate has fluctuated since they cam to the market.
REVOSLOT TO EXPAND AFTER PORSCHE GT2 RELEASE. The recent arrival of the Porsche GT2 cars from new manufacturer REVOSLOT has outstripped demand. New production runs are underway and all versions will be available again in November.
REVOSLOT have also announced plans to produce more cars using similar technology. The Lister Storm GT1 and Marcos LM600 GT2 haven't been around for some years since they were produced by FLY. The Panoz GTR1 Coupe and the Panoz Esperante LMP Spyder were also made in several versions by FLY. These are planned to be revisited by REVOSLOT at the same time as they will produce the Ferrari 333SP. The latter car had several bodywork and detail changes during its life so this could open up more possibilities for slot car versions. More details when we get information fromREVOSLOT.
CARRERA LIMITED EDITIONS. We did say it has been much quieter this week, and the only new cars that arrived are the two shown here. We received very few of theseCARRERA imports, and they were oversold even before they arrived. Sorry to anyone who's order we couldn't fill. Cars that are not produced for the UK market are always in short supply, but we know there are many collectors who like to see them anyway.

THE LAST WORD
I was shown some very old slot cars recently and one of them took me back many years because it was the same as my own very first slot car. This was an Airfix Sunbeam Rapier which I had as a kit, they came with an Airfix plastic kit plus a slot car chassis and parts. In hindsight, pretty awful with one of the worst motors ever made, 2-pin steering, and braids that went through slots in the chassis and all the way to the motor. Suffice to say it didn't last long and as soon as I has another car the Airfix motor was "donated" to a kit of parts to make up the Airfix Mercedes W125. Wasn't much better really.......
The car that replaced the Airfix Sunbeam Rapier was another kit, this time the Revell Mercedes 300SL. Much better all round, and remains one of my favourite slot cars to this day. We didn't know much about slot car tuning in those days, and didn't have the wide range of parts that became available later, so cars tended to be raced in standard form. The Mercedes was not too bad, but no match for the expensive imports of Cox and Monogram. I did eventually end up with a Cox Ford GT40 as a Christmas present, and later the same car in 1/24 scale as well.
There are many of you of a "certain age" who will have similar memories. Who had a Scalextric set with rubber track as their first slot racing interest ? (Mine had plastic track and two Formula Junior cars). How many of you teamed up with a friend or neighbour to add your tracks parts together and build a bigger circuit ? How many joined a club, which were present in just about every town at the time as slot car racing was a massive hobby ? More to the point, how many people still have any of their original cars ? Mine all got butchered (we liked to use the term "tuned" but it was mostly damage in an attempt for better performance, and little regard to appearance) and discarded as the better parts were used in the next project.
I am sure I have made many collectors cry at the thought of what has been destroyed over the years, but that is the way we were back in the day. Luckily some cars have survived, but it can only be a very small percentage of what existed. Looking at the other aspect, how many people have "collected" cars in the last 15 - 20 years with the hope they would be valuable some day, or hoped to make a killing on auction sites ? Many of those are now only worth a fraction of what was paid for them - so why do people like to sit on multiples of the same car with very little chance of getting their money back, and very far from making a profit........
I am going back to remembering the days of the first paragraph when we had fun, you didn't feel guilty about altering the cars, and future money wasn't a factor as long as you could have a good race.
