Barn Burners Race Report for May 4, 2019
The sixth event of the season featured the second running of the European Racing Group (EU) with ten entrants in 50’s Formula 1 and nine in the Carrera DTM and 70’s-80’s Formula 1 classes.
The 50’s Formula 1 (no magnet) race was tedious to say the least. The race was won by Tyler Ording piloting his 1956 T251 Bugatti completing 52 laps followed by Ed Templeman’s yellow Lancia Ferrari with 50 laps. Third place went to Ron C. and his 1958 Aston Martin with 49 laps and fourth place to Mark Flyge with a borrowed BRM P25 with 47 laps. Joe Brimer had the fastest lap of the race with a 12.592 second lap with his Mercedes F1 car.
The Carrera DTM race was won by Tyler Ording Red Bull Audi R 85 with 79 Laps. Second place was scored by Ed Templeman’s Di Resta AMG C63 Mercedes with 77 laps and the fastest lap of the race of 7.971 seconds. The 70’s-80’s Formula 1 race was the last race of the day and featured the fastest cars that we have raced on the Spa circuit.
Ed Templeman won the race by two laps with his Rothman’s March 761 and 90 laps. During his heats he exceded the minimum lap time in three of the four lanes causing the timing buzzer to go off. This mean that the lap times were under 7 second and were at the very least 6.999 second laps .His 6.999 lap was fastest lap of the day and is currently the single lap record for the new Spa circuit. Joe Brimer with a hard fought 87 laps was second with his Ronnie Peterson March 761, Mark Flyge with his John Day March 761 was third with 79 laps and Kendall E. with her Brabham BT44B was fourth with 76 laps
Our next race will be held on June 1st and will feature the North American Racing Group (NA) which includes; Classic NASCAR (no magnet), Trans Am and Can Am. See you all there!
