NEW CARS ANNOUNCED
SLOTWINGS have announced three new Porsche 911 RSR models. These are cars that were used for the International Race Of Champions series (IROC) and could be the basis for some more later releases if they prove popular. You can see some of the famous names that drove them, in this case Fittipaldi, Donohue, and Hulme.
NEWS ROUNDUP
MANUFACTURERS PICTURE - SRC. Due for release this months is the next McLaren M23 from SRC. This version in Lucky Strike livery was used in the 1974 South African GP by Dave Charlton. As a Chrono model, it has the performance revisions later given to the McLaren M23 Yardley car released last year which made it such a good performer on the track.
MANUFACTURERS PICTURES - NSR. Although these are mythical liveries, whenNSR announced these cars at Nuremberg we thought they looked rather nice. Of course Martini fans will be delighted, and so should race and rally fans because theNSR Porsche 997 is a great performer and competed in races and rallies.
THE LAST WORD
Last week we had a chat about trackside buildings. It lead to some enquiries and sales because many of you either didn't know what was available, or didn't realise that we stocked them. It would seem that some more realistic tracks and dioramas are now in progress - send us some pictures if one of them is yours.Buildings are one thing, people are another thing, so we thought we would carry on the theme by telling you about some of the huge range of figures that are available. There are pricipally six manufacturers figures ranges that we have in stock at MRE, with more than 100 different figures or packs of figures. So what is available ? FIGUREN MANUFAKTUR are a relatively new German company with a range of resin figures. Mostly drivers and pit crew members, but there are cameraman, reporter, and spectator figures as well. The drivers are decorated as real personalities although the names and logos are missing, possibly for licencing reasons, but something you can easily add yourself. Most popular is the Steve McQueen figure from the film Le Mans, probably because he is giving the well-known salute to his opponent ! The mechanics and pit crews have a very period feeling about them, so if you are building a classic pit scenario there is plenty of choice with poses and colour options. They are all available separately. There is nothing to really compare to the LE MANS MINIATURES figures - expertly crafted and beautifully hand-painted, these are the Rolls-Royce of trackside figures. Take your pick from pit crews, cameramen, Gendarmes and Firemen, Team Mangers, generic period drivers in different poses, grid girls & sponsorship girls, and then consider the best-selling realistic famous driver figures. All of the LMM figures are posed realistically, making it very easy to make a scene that looks authentic, and with figures you can recognise and identify from real races. All available separately. SRA are a range of white metal figures that are now owned by SLOT TRACK SCENICS but still marketed as a different range. Having started with sets of driver figures, SRA moved quickly towards packs of marshalls and pit crews, including some nice recogniseable team managers of the period. The most notable sets are the Crash Crew set and the TV Reporters set, as both have figures seen at trackside and in the pits that are not modelled by other manufacturers. Pit wall crews and spectators are at the end of the range, adding more options for your layout. All the SRA figures come in packs of 5 or more different figures in as set, supplied in bare white metal that needs priming and painting, but this gives you the choice of making very individual figures. Of course many of you will be familiar with the figures from SCALEXTRIC andAIRFIX/MRRC and SCX and other brands. Some like the SCALEXTRIC ones have been around for 60 years now, the others almost as long. Although out of production for many years they were produced in such huge numbers you can easily find them secondhand at any swapmeet - a few pounds will get you a good handful, and a quick repaint gives you lots of new identities. The potential for having literally hundreds of different figures around your track is limitless. NOTE - other manufacturers figures are also available, we have just mentioned the ones we stock or are out of production. |
