Spark & LookSmart Announcements
Today we have two manufacturer announcements for you:
Spark have a big announcement - they are producing the 2015 Bathurst 12 Hour-winning Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 in 1:43 scale in a limited edition of 300.
There's also a very unusual speed record attempt Porsche 935 coming in 1:43 scale plus a range of seven new 1:87 (HO scale) Porsche and Toyota Le Mans cars.
Over at LookSmart they are producing the two Ferrari SF90 F1 cars that raced in China last month, marking the 1000th Grands Prix since the World Championship began in 1950. Both models will be produced in 1:18 and 1:43 scale.

1:43 2016 Bathurst 12 Hr Winner Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 #35 Chiyo / Reip / Strauss AS031
After a fairly uneventful race from 50 starters, the highlights came in the closing laps. The #35 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 of Katsumasa Chiyo, Wolfgang Reip and Florian Strauss had been racing conservatively all day, just staying on the lead lap and in touch with the leaders. Matt Bell led the field in one of the M-Sport Bentley Continental GT3s, ahead of Laurens Vanthoor in the Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS Ultra with Chiyo in third. Stefan Mücke (Aston Martin Vantage GT3) and Dean Canto (Mercedes SLS AMG) were also on the lead lap. After a few late safety car periods, only two laps were left to the finish. Once racing began again Chiyo took second at the first corner before taking the lead going up Mountain Straight. As Chiyo built a gap over his rivals, a battle developed for second place, with Bell ahead of Vanthoor and Mücke. Mücke passed Vanthoor for third going down Conrod Straight on the final lap before attempting to pass Bell at the final corner. Unfortunately Mücke made contact with Bell, sending him into a slide, while Vanthoor drove around the outside of both cars to take second place behind Chiyo. Mücke took third while Bell dropped to fourth. Nissan was back on the podium at Bathurst!

1:43 Porsche 935 Bicycle Speed Record Attempt Car Pescarolo / Rude S1939
In 1979, French professional cyclist Jean-Claude Rude wanted to hit over 240 km/h (150 mph) on his Bianchi to set a world-speed record. He turned to Porsche Martini Racing and legendary Le Mans winner and compatriot Henri Pescarolo for help in his quest.
The work behind Rude's record attempt was quite fascinating. Porsche created a special version of its then top-level 935 race car with a gigantic spoiler that could create a pressure vacuum for Rude to ride within, towing him up to speed after a push start witha motorcycle using a lance. The record attempt was held at Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track near Wolfsburg.
Rude's bike was fitted with a giant sprocket to allow it to obtain huge speeds, with a roller bar installed on the back of the Porsche in case the bike's front tyre came into contact with the car. The attempt would also require some very precise driving from Pescarolo - accelerate too quickly or leave him behind at speed would mean Rude would be subject to huge wind pressure, putting his life in danger.
The attempt didn't go very well. Rude's rear tyre blew out at over 160 km/h (100 mph), though the cyclist was able to slow down without injury. It's a fascinating and frankly bizarre footnote in both Porsche and cycling history with the model making a really interesting conversation piece for collectors.
